By 1160, Sir Simon Frazer held lands of Keith in East Lothian and gifted the church at Keith to the Abbey of Kelso. A later Simon Fraser stood alongside William Wallace in Scotland’s struggle for freedom and famously defeated three divisions of the English army at the Battle of Roslin in 1302. Captured by Edward I, he was executed with great cruelty, cementing his place in Scottish history.
