Through marriage to Eva O’Dubhne, heiress of the West Coast, the Campbells acquired Lochawe in the 13th century. The first recorded Chief, Sir Colin (Cailein Mór), was recognised by John Balliol as one of the principal barons of Argyll in 1292.
