The first Bruce recorded in Britain was Robert de Brus, who arrived with William the Conqueror’s Norman invasion of England in 1066 and is thought to have died in 1094. His son, also named Robert, was the first of the family with a Scottish connection. As a companion of Prince David, he came north to Scotland and was granted the Lordship of Annandale after David became King of Scotland.
